Robin Ince interview for Strange Tourist

I spoke to Robin Ince ahead of his two upcoming performances in Margate, first at the Margate Bookie literary festival on 6th October and then the Crab Museum on 25th October.

It was a really fun and wide ranging conversation. Robin speaks at speed, but also with great thought and insight. As well as covering what the expect from his Margate performances, we also spoke about the Edinburgh Fringe, mental health and how to manage it as a performer, his recent foray into poetry, and Judy Dench’s rude handkerchief sewing.

“You have to work out how to make sure you've got enough money for the family and everyone to be happy,” he says of his approach to choosing which jobs to accept. “But the moment I've done that it doesn't matter what the pay is. And so, creativity is the thing that comes first.”

For him, he says, it’s about making sure “that in this short amount of life that I've got, I get as many opportunities to find interesting situations.”
