Press release for new Fiona Brice single

Composer, arranger and violinist Fiona Brice releases her new single Ivy Falls this week, for which I have written the press release. The track is taken from Bigo & Twigetti’s new Winter Vol. 2 compilation, which features new music from various artists inspired by winter.

Out this Friday, Fiona Brice has contributed new track Ivy Falls to a compilation of music inspired by winter. Winter Vol. 2 is set to be released by independent label Bigo & Twigetti in full in December.

“Ivy Falls is loosely based around the 19th century festive folk song The Holly and the Ivy, but is secular in character, inspired by nature,” she says of her latest collaboration with Bigo & Twigetti. “The piano ostinato represents rain or snow drops falling outside the window, the major key holding optimism for the wintery season as the yearly cycle renews once more.”

Multi-instrumentalist Fiona Brice has released two solo albums through Bella Union as well as other music through Bigo & Twigetti. She has worked closely with artists including John Grant, Placebo and Stereophonics’ Kelly Jones, as well as recording and performing with numerous other musicians, including Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Kanye West, Elbow, Anna Calvi, John Grant, Phoebe Bridgers and more. Her work has been commissioned by the BBC Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra, Heritage Orchestra and others, and she writes for film and TV.

A decade on from the release of their original Winter compilation, Bigo & Twigetti will release the follow-up, Winter Vol. 2, at the end of this year. Once again bringing together new music inspired by winter from artists on the label, tracks will be released over the coming months, before the full compilation is available on 27th December.

How to interpret the theme has been left completely up to each composer. There is music inspired by everything from the formation of snowflakes to the feeling of calm solitude in a remote landscape.

Bigo & Twigetti’s original Winter compilation was released in 2014 and featured folk, classical and electronic music from artists including Jim Perkins, Antonymes, Leah Kardos, and Madeleine Cocolas. The first themed compilation put out by the label, it remains a mainstay of the company’s catalogue. So it felt only right to mark its tenth anniversary by expanding on it with more music from artists who have joined the label over the last ten years.

Other composers who have contributed to Winter Vol. 2 include pianist Ben Crosland, ambient producer Hior Chronik, and composer duo Biba Dupont.

Ivy Falls and Winter Memory are the latest tracks to be released from the compilation. Through to the end of the year, as the weather grows colder, more tracks from Winter Vol. 2 will be revealed. The full release schedule is as follows:
